Congratulations to Stephensburg Fire & Rescue, Stephensburg, KY, our 12/5/25 Biannual Headset System Giveaway award winner. The winning entry was sent by Chief Shane Wesley Carpenter.
“Communication is one of our biggest challenges. Inside our trucks the noise from the engine, sirens, and radio traffic makes it difficult for our crews to hear one another clearly. Critical updates from dispatch or officers can get lost in the noise, and at times, our firefighters are left relying on hand signals or repeated shouting to confirm instructions. On scene, things become even more difficult. Structure fires, crashes on busy roads, or chaotic emergency scenes mean loud, unpredictable environments. When firefighters can’t clearly hear one another, it slows down operations, increases confusion, and adds stress to already dangerous situations. A David Clark Headset System will directly improve the efficiency and safety of our operations by providing hands-free noise cancelling communication inside and outside the apparatus.
The David Clark [Headset] system will allow our department to operate with clear and more reliable communication during every stage of an emergency response, improving the overall safety and situational awareness of our firefighters and the quality of service we provide to the community. For us, this isn’t just equipment–it’s peace of mind.”
The Headset Communication System will be designed and configured for the apparatus by David Clark Company. System installation will be provided at no charge to the department, courtesy of ERS Wireless, Louisville, KY.
